Traveling to the city via the Park & Ride Jitney service to the NJ Short Hills Transit Station or the NJ Transit Bus to Port Authority make Springfield a great living spot for commuters. Home of the Baltusrol Golf Club, host of the 2005 PGA Championship is an added perk for the avid golfer. The Houdaille Quarry is a 120-acre (49 ha) former rock quarry located in Springfield Township, Union County, New Jersey bordering the northern edge of the Baltusrol Golf Club. A sprinkling of restaurants, fitness centers, and nearby shopping and hiking trails make this the perfect suburban location. Springfield Township was created by an act of the New Jersey State Legislature and was formed as a Township on April 14, 1794. The Houdaille Quarry sits directly to the left of the Springfield dot marking the Hobart Gap, in the first Watchung Mountain. Springfield has a variety of recreation programs, several parks, a newly built, state of the art football field, running track and community pool to enjoy during the summer months. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Springfield in the Top 100 best places to live in New Jersey in its 2010 rankings of the “Best Places to Live” in New Jersey and in June 2010, Newsweek named Springfield’s Jonathan Dayton High School as one of the best high schools in the county. Springfield Township is a beautiful, residential community located in Union County, New Jersey, just 24 miles outside of NYC.
